Very Late Post: Samhain (2014)

Sorry about this being a late post, but I was just so busy that I didn't have the time to do a post. I'm planning on changing that real soon. First of all, I hope that your Samhain was wonderful. I wasn't going to celebrate Samhain but as it is my people's holiday I decided to go ahead and celebrate it. My personal view about this night is that it was a time when mortality really hit people in the face.

It's not like today, where you can go out and get food from your local store. You had to make due with what you grew and if you didn't have enough, well then you, or someone in your family, died. That's how it was back then. And I think that we've gotten away from that mindset with everything being convenient and not having to worry about death and dying during the winter months. The one time that I really was hit hard on how bad it can get if you don't have heat and food was up in MA when our heat was turned off.

It was hard. Everything was cold, bleak, and not much fun. The cold was suddenly in the house and you could actually freeze to death. I haven't forgotten that lesson, not by a long shot. So this Samhain I wished the dead well, honored those that didn't have anyone to honor them, and thanked my people's gods (the Celts) for what I've been given. I hope that you all have a wonderful month and I'll see you around.
